Ten years ago I took a trip down to London to see 808 celebrate the 25th Anniversary of their album, 90. It was a bit closer to home for their 35th anniversary at New Century Hall in Manchester. Andy is sadly missing from the line-up now but Massey's son, Jackson, has stepped in keep the beats alive. The set kicked off with the sparkling "Magical Dream," setting the stage for the bass-heavy onslaught of "Ancodia." The sound was loud . Scratches battled with furious basslines as the iconic Speak & Spell samples teased from the mix. The stage was a mesmerizing tangle of wires and laptops, but it was clear that much of the music was being created live. Massey was a whirlwind of activity, tinkering with keys while the drummer unleashed a relentless percussive assault. Jumbles Reservoir in Bolton

Today was my first time visiting the beautiful Jumbles Reservoir in Bolton, and it definitely won’t be the last! We set off on a lovely walk around the reservoir, choosing the anticlockwise route which gave us some brilliant views right from the start. The scenery was peaceful and green, with plenty of spots to stop and take it all in. One thing that caught my eye was the row of stunning houses on the opposite side of the reservoir—seriously fancy places with views to die for. Imagine waking up to that every day! After the walk, we wrapped up our visit at the café nearby, where we treated ourselves to a very generous ice cream. It was the perfect end to a laid-back afternoon in nature.

A Special Night at Rochdale Town Hall: Janet Emsley Becomes Mayor

Last night, I had the chance to attend something really special at Rochdale Town Hall—the ceremony where Councillor Janet Emsley officially became the new Mayor of Rochdale for 2025–2026. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect going in, but it turned out to be a lovely evening full of tradition, pride, and a great sense of community. Things kicked off right on time at 7pm with all the formal entrances—outgoing Mayor Councillor Shakil Ahmed, Mayoress Robina Bi, and Consort Councillor Rachel Massey came in with the incoming team, including Deputy Mayor Councillor Faisal Rana. The atmosphere in the room felt quite grand, but also welcoming. The main event was, of course, the election of the new mayor. Councillor Janet Emsley was put forward and officially welcomed by her fellow councillors. After a bit of ceremony and a quick robing in the side room, Janet came back in as “Her Worship the Mayor of Rochdale”, and everyone stood to greet her.
