808 State - Transmission Suite launch event

Tonight, I had the pleasure of attending the launch event for 808 State's long-awaited album, Transmission Suite, held at Piccadilly Records and 33 Oldham Street in Manchester. The evening featured a live performance at Piccadilly Records and an engaging Q&A session at 33 Oldham Street with band members Graham Massey and Andy Barker, offering fans an intimate glimpse into the creative process behind their first studio album in 17 years.

The venue, nestled in Manchester's vibrant Northern Quarter, provided a fitting backdrop for the event. As the album played, its fusion of classic acid house elements with contemporary electronic influences resonated throughout the space. Tracks like "Tokyo Tokyo" and "Cannonball Waltz" showcased the duo's ability to blend nostalgic sounds with modern rhythms, reflecting the city's evolving musical landscape.

During the Q&A, Massey and Barker shared insights into the album's production, discussing how recording in the historic Granada Studios influenced their sound. They spoke about drawing inspiration from Manchester's current club scene, including nights like Swing Ting and Eyes Down, emphasizing the city's role in shaping their music.
