This was hands down the most captivating set I've ever experienced.
Autechre wants you to experience the sound without distractions. Complete darkness, no flash photography – a smart move to minimize ego-driven nonsense. Though, someone still yelled "Take your jacket off, it's hot," proving their point.
About 20 minutes in, tech issues hit. Instead of panic, Autechre played with us. Ominous ambient sounds, then bursts of intricate beats, only to pull back into abstraction. The result? A mix of heckles, laughter, and a strange submission from the crowd. They were in control, and it was fascinating to watch.
The set exploded into a thrilling glitchy assault – their most dynamic performance I've heard. Near the barriers, the crowd's energy shifted from aggressive to respectful. I lost myself in the chaos, a wave of euphoria washing over me. At one point, I swear I heard fragmented vocals in the dense soundscapes – maybe an illusion, but it felt perfect.
